Nothing marks a sign of the times quite like an eyebrow trend. Whether it’s the barely-there pencil look from the ‘90s, or the harsh drawn-in fullness of the 2010s, just when you’ve gotten used to a trend, the next comes in hot. Brow lamination is the latest trend that pushes your eyebrow hairs upward for a fuller, more polished look—and we’re totally in love.

You can go get a brow lamination done by a professional at places like Benefit’s BrowBars and boutiques, which will last you four to six weeks (like a lash lift for your brows), but with the right products and a little practice, you can get the same look at home for a fraction of the cost. Ready to find out more on how to achieve the brow lamination look at home? Keep scrolling for the details.

How to Do Brow Lamination at Home:

People with any type or shape of brows can benefit from lamination. If you’re starting with thin or sparse eyebrows, brow lamination can help make it appear like you have fuller, thicker brows by locking the hairs in a brushed-up position. Even those with thicker brows naturally will love the shape and structure an eyebrow lamination offers.

Although traditional lamination at home is possible, we do recommend visiting a Benefit Boutique and leaving it to the professionals, since customers at home may be unfamiliar with the safety practices for professional-strength products. However, if you want to get the brow lamination look at home using makeup, here’s what you’ll need:

1. Cleanse Your Brows

You might be used to doing your brows as a final step in your makeup routine, but with at-home brow lamination, you should start with your brows (even before primers and foundations). Make sure there’s no lingering makeup, oil, or residue on your eyebrows by wiping the entire brow area with a cleansing or micellar water on a cotton pad. This will also help the product you’re about to apply stay put longer and look cleaner.

2. Get the Hairs in Order

Using your clean spoolie brush, brush your brow hairs up and out until they’re roughly in the desired shape you’d like for lamination. As a general rule of thumb, all the hairs from the start of your brows to right before the arch should go up, and everything from the arch to the tip should go out toward your temples.

3. Brush Them in Place

Now’s where your brow wax comes in. Most brow waxes, like the BENEFIT COSMETICS Fluff Up Brow Wax, have a built-in spoolie brush to help you apply the product evenly. Using light, short strokes, work the brow wax through your brow hairs, making sure to keep them in the same direction you created earlier. Pro tip: Make sure you do this while the product is still wet, so it can dry your brow hairs into position. We like working on one brow at a time for this reason.

4. Let Your Brows Set

If your brow wax went on white, let it set until the product goes clear and becomes invisible (it’ll look like the BENEFIT COSMETICS Fluff Up Brow Wax photo above). Then, you’re done! Once they’re set, you can move on to the rest of your makeup routine. Just be sure to leave your brows alone as you work on your complexion.
