I Let My Birth Chart Build My Beauty Routine—Here’s What Happened

As a beauty writer, my routine is always changing. There are numerous products I’m testing at any given moment, so I’ve always had trouble settling on what’s actually best for me. Of course, I’ve tried time and time again, but I always broke away from my routine within a month or two. This has often led me to believe that I’ll never find the “right” routine for me. So, I decided to turn to astrology.

I’ve seen all the videos on the best makeup for your rising sign and how to do your hair for your moon sign, which convinced me my birth chart might hold the answer to my ideal beauty routine. Without hesitation, I reached out to a couple of astrologers, and they mapped out what my ideal routine might look like, from skincare and makeup to hair and fragrance. Discover my experience with astrology-based beauty below!

It's about glam time you treated yourself.

MEET THE EXPERT

Karolina Sucre is a Miami-based astrologer and lifestyle creator. She is the creator of the viral “Dressing for Your Venus Sign” series, where she has taught millions how to enhance their magnetism using their birth chart.

Tasha Beg is a Brooklyn-based evolutionary astrologer who left her Wall Street career during her Saturn Return and never looked back. In addition to her client practice, she aims to bring astrology into everyday conversation as a pop culture commentator, covering celebrity news, reality TV, and film through her online persona @thepopastrologist.

My Ideal Beauty Routine, According to My Birth Chart

The affirming news from the experts is that I’m working with a lot of energies in my chart, which is probably why I always struggled to settle into a routine. Tasha Beg, an evolutionary astrologer, shares that “there’s a bit of tension between wanting to go ‘tried-and-true’ versus experimenting with something new.” Karolina Sucre, an astrologer and lifestyle creator, shares that the key is to work “with all the different energies in your chart, not against them.” Overall, Sucre says my ideal routine should “get your circulation going, support your face with lymphatic drainage, and keep your skincare simple, high-quality, and consistent.” Let’s break it all down.

The Skincare Ritual I Apparently Needed

Sucre says that warmth and movement will bring out my natural glow. “You have a lot of fire in your chart with an Aries rising and Sagittarius Sun, so your body naturally runs hot and carries a lot of energy. When that energy is moving, your skin reflects it. So anything that gets your blood flowing and boosts circulation is going to be really good for your complexion. This can look like heat-based practices like a sauna, hot yoga, or even just a hot shower.” I love a hot shower and a heated workout, so I was happy to hear I didn’t need to update that part of my routine.

Because of my moon in Taurus in my first house, I tend to have a puffy face—don’t I know it. This is why Sucre recommends “incorporating lymphatic drainage or gua sha into your routine can make a big difference. It helps move that fluid, define your features, and keep everything looking more sculpted and refreshed.” I happen to have a heated gua sha, which bodes well for many energies in my chart. Do I use it regularly? No. Will I, moving forward? Absolutely!

Beg notes that my routine should be focused on intentionality and grounding, saying, “Mirror work and the affirmations you say as part of your beauty routine are deeply important and could even be considered a spiritual practice—take that mirror seriously.” Apart from mirror work, Beg says ethics are important to my routine. “With a Taurus Moon and Sagittarius Sun, there’s a sense of wanting to feel luxurious with harm to none. Make sure the routine consists of products that are aligned with your personal values.”

More than anything, Sucre and Beg stress that my skincare routine needs to be consistent (whoops!). “Do not switch products all the time. Your skin is not built for that,” says Sucre. “You’re someone who actually benefits from finding a few high-quality products that work and sticking to them. They don’t have to be the most expensive, but they do need to be well-formulated and consistent.” Beg says to keep it “simple and streamlined during the week,” then indulge in a longer ritual over the weekend.

The Makeup Energy My Chart Called For

Similar to my skincare routine, astrology also wants my makeup to be subtle yet impactful. “Your Aries rising loves to make a statement, so this is where you can play with bold colors, a red lip, a smoky eye, something that stands out,” says Sucre. But she does note that my “Venus in Capricorn wants it to be refined. It wants structure, clean lines, and high-quality makeup that looks timeless, not messy or overdone.” The best option? To blend the two. “Think flawless skin, sculpted face, neutral tones, then a statement lip or a strong eye.”

The Hair Plot Twist

The key to my hair is to have fun and go bold, especially with my Aries rising. Beg says that if I’m “ready for a dramatic change, try a shixie [shag + pixie] cut over the summer with longer layers and softer edges. This would lead to a chic, shaggy bob fall transformation.”

My Signature Scent Era

Beg says that for my Taurus moon, “smelling good is just as important as looking good.” This I know to be true, as I never leave the house without some combination of fragrances on. She says to “experiment with a signature scent by layering lotions, body oils, and mists to find your own unique combination for each season.”

My Experience With My Astrology-Based Beauty Routine

I used this information to follow a routine over the weekend. On Saturday morning, I started with an everything shower before my nail appointment that day, treating my hair to a bit of a spa day with the BRIOGEO Scalp Revival™ Charcoal + Tea Tree Buildup Detox Spray and PUREOLOGY Hydrate Hair Treatment Mask. When I got out, I went to work on my skincare routine. I washed my face with the PACIFICA Vegan Ceramide Extra Gentle Face Wash because my skin is reactive, and Sucre notes to “focus on calming and barrier support with ingredients like peptides, ceramides, lipids, hyaluronic acid, and other soothing ingredients.” Thankfully, this face wash that I’ve been using has plenty of those skin-loving ingredients.

Sticking to the theme of skin barrier-strengthening, I used the ANUA Rice Ceramide 7 Hydrating Barrier Serum for moisture and sebum control. Then I finished with the CHASIN’ RABBITS Green Golden Ruler Cream, which uses green tea for moisture and to minimize redness. I slathered on more than usual because I figured now was as good a time as any to incorporate gua sha into my routine. I broke out the SKIN GYM LED Gua Sha Facial Tool, which utilizes heat, vibration, and LED light therapy to sculpt and tone.

I hadn’t used this tool in a while, but after the 10-minute routine, I was reminded why I liked it so much and why I needed it. My face is often puffy (again, thanks to my Taurus moon in the first house), so it was nice to depuff it.

Because I was just getting my nails done on Saturday, I didn’t do too much makeup, just applied an SPF before heading out the door. For my hair, I kept it simple, too. I was running late, so I worked the INNERSENSE ORGANIC BEAUTY Air Dry Styling Cream to leave my hair smooth, touchable, and balanced as it air-dried.

Sunday, I stayed home most of the day, so I followed the same skincare routine in the morning. In the evening, I went out to watch the NBA Playoffs with my boyfriend (go Thunder). This was where I decided to have some more fun with my makeup, like the astrologers suggested. I kept the base simple, using my go-to LYS BEAUTY Triple Fix Blurring Skin Tint Foundation Stick to even out my complexion. Normally, I would then use a blush but I decided against it so the focus was my lips. I’m not the best at a smoky eye look, so I also kept this simple with some mascara and a bit of an eyeliner. I opted for a bold red lip to be the star of the show, something I love doing when I don’t want to wear too much makeup. I find a red lip emphasizes my best features and draws attention from the ones I’d rather cover up.

I finished the look by smoothing my hair out with the MANE It's Giving Body Large Hot Round Brush. A sleek blowout, I feel, speaks to my Taurus moon and Capricorn Venus because I feel the most put-together in it.

Final Thoughts

All in all, I enjoyed learning what would work for me based on my birth chart. I felt the most sure of myself I ever had in a long time. Plus, it was nice to receive some guidance on what would work for me. I hear a lot of noise on what I should and shouldn’t use in my routine, so it was affirming to let astrology and my own birth chart be the ultimate determining factor.

If you’re also someone who is struggling to find a routine that feels right, turn to astrology like I did. It’ll teach you a lot about yourself and leave you feeling confident in what you’re doing. Couldn’t we all use a little more confidence these days?
