In episode 5 of IPSY’s Hitting Pan podcast, beauty creator and artist Chrisspy gets to the bottom of her meteoric rise to popularity, taking a major time out from social media, dealing with the comparison complex, and finally reaching a place of self-acceptance. Plus, she shares a little blast-from-the-past Chrisspy-core beauty advice and spills on what she’d say to her younger self (spoiler alert: absolutely nothing!).

Why You Need to Tune In to This Episode

After living her life online creating epic beauty transformation videos and some of the best makeup tutorials we’ve ever seen, creator Chrisspy took a big leap when she stepped away from social media. After more than a year offline, she’s finally back—and her longtime loyal fans will definitely notice a (positive!) difference. She’s still sharing all things beautiful, but now it’s so much more than just makeup.

Key Takeaways: Chrisspy Knows When to Lean In—and When to Lean Out

  • Taking a Time Out: “My mental health was in a really bad place. I didn’t realize how burnt out I was. Instead of listening to myself and figuring out what was going on with me, I just kept looking to the outside, thinking: If I lose more weight, I’m gonna be happy; If I make more money, I'm gonna be happy; If my social media performs, I’m gonna be happier; and I was just drowning basically. So eventually I got to the point where I was needed to reevaluate my mental health and my life and take some time away. And it was such a beautiful time in my life because I got back to myself. It was a really healing time.”

  • Navigating the Comparison Complex: “I have lots of friends that are creators, and I look at someone else like, ‘You’re doing so good.’ And they look at me like, ‘You’re doing so good,’ but I don’t feel like I'm doing good because we’re always comparing ourselves to other people. So one of the huge benefits of staying off of social media was the fact that I didn’t have to deal with the comparison complex.”

  • Finding Acceptance: “That was such a huge shift for me, practicing acceptance instead of self-love, because I love myself very conditionally. I love myself as long as you’re fulfilling all these things, you're achieving, you look good, people like you, and that’s always subject to change. Once I accepted myself and accepted all the circumstances of my life, then I was really able to feel so much gratitude and so thankful.”

  • Advice for Her Younger Self: “I wouldn't tell her anything. I had to go on that path, and I had to make all those mistakes. It was all part of my soul’s curriculum. There’s a part of me that did know that. When I was trusting my soul, like you need to do this, follow your soul. I feel like a part of me that was so sure that this was the right move was my future self guiding me in the right direction.”
